I investigated the cause when I noticed that my van takes a long time to heat up. It appears to be a widespread problem, particularly for those of us who live in colder areas.
The coolant temperature gauge is a little deceptive. The engine isn't always fully warmed up just because it's in the middle. At that moment, the temperature is really closer to 50°C. For optimum operation and effective heating, the engine must reach about 100°C.
For the initial few minutes of driving, consider shutting off the front and back vents to help the engine warm up more quickly. This speeds up the engine's attainment of operating temperature by lessening the strain on the cooling system.
Has anyone else noticed this slow warm-up issue?
